The Statute of the Child and Adolescent (ECA), Law no. 8.069, dated 13th July 1990, is the main instrument that provides on the rights of children and teenagers in Brazil. ECA has incorporated the advances introduced in the United Nations Convention of the Rights of Children and paved the way for the approval of Article 227 of the Brazilian Federal Constitution, which sets forth the fundamental rights and guarantees of children and adolescents.
